Cerno Capital co-founder Nick Hornby endorses alternative protein, blockchain and space exploration as key investment themes over the next 35 years.
In the last portfolio advisor video above, Hornby explains why he thinks these three areas will drive technological innovation over the next 25 to 35 years – and on a larger scale than the invention of the internet.
First, Hornby says the evolution of meat substitutes and alternative proteins will make traditional farming “obsolete” as people start to find these methods distasteful. He adds that the development of lab-grown and plant-based proteins will become the norm, with companies like Nestlé already tapping into this trend.
Next, he explains why blockchain technology has the potential to be “completely transformative for the financial system” through its use, for example, in the settlement of derivatives transactions.
Finally, he explains the interest of investing in space, noting that the fall in the cost of sending satellites into orbit will revolutionize the production of data which sustains certain industries on earth. He cites Elon Musk’s Starlink as an example of this. Cerno likes the Seraphim Space investment trust as a way to access this theme.
